Podio
10 tips to get you started on Podio
- Most important is to invite you teammates in! Podio just isn’t as fun alone. Access to Podio is given on a workspace to workspace basis. To invite a person in to a space:
* go the workspace
* click on ‘Contacts’
* then click ‘New Member’
* Add their email address, choose a user role, add a personal message and then ‘Add’
Check out the Get Started page: https://company.podio.com/getstarted where you can use the presentation template to introduce Podio to other members, and get tips to Demo Podio like a Pro to your organization! - Our App Store has a lot of apps and packs to get you started on Podio. As a non-profit, you should check out the Community Management function in the App Store: https://podio.com/store/functional/47.
For educational institutions, check out our Educational Function in the App Store: https://podio.com/store/functional/55 - As a new user on Podio, getting apps and packs from the App Store is a great way to get inspiration for your setup, but remember that you can always add/remove apps in a pack and also can modify the Apps themselves by adding/removing/modifying the fields to make the App work like you.

You can of course also build your apps from scratch, see here these videos

By commenting or otherwise interacting with an App Item (e.g. a specific meeting in the Meetings App) you will automatically subscribe yourself to be notified when something changes. You can also subscribe to an app (click on the app, subscribe is in the right hand column) as well as subscribe to an item (click on the item, choice also in right hand column). If you wish to no longer receive notifications you can unsubscribe in the right hand column or also do it directly from your inbox – ‘stop notifying me’, bottom right hand corner of a message in green.
- Instead of sending emails out to everyone, share important information and updates on Podio, e.g. Weekly Newsletters and Meeting details. For meetings, try one of the meetings apps found in the App Store. Ask your teammates to subscribe – then they will receive a notification every time you post a new meeting and will know to RSVP. No more long email threads!
- Make your workspaces personal for you organization. Add pictures, share links, quotes or reports in the widgets – either on the space front page or on the app page - the choice to ‘add a widget’ will be in the right hand column. Use the Employee Network to connect with all members of your organization. Ask questions, give feedback, post motivating comments and keep everyone informed about great accomplishments and achievements!
- @Mentions: Is there something you would like to alert someone else about in the stream or in a comment? Try typing @(name) and you will be able to pick them from the list. They will then get a notification from you to go take a look, also by default they will get a notification in their email inbox, so you can make sure it’s been seen.
- In need of a way for people to get in contact with your organisation or want to make surveys? Try out the webforms – an easy way to get information from the outside into Podio. See a video about webforms here: http://www.youtube.com/user/podio#p/search/0/Akl6R_A7dcw
- Don’t forget that you can also invite in external people who you collaborate with, e.g. a lawyer or an accountant. As a sponsored organization on Podio, you can give these collaborators the light user role: they can create app items and comment, but cannot create new apps, edit apps or invite other users in.
